Two Decades in Production • Pan-African Delivery

About Helix Cloud Solutions

Operations-grade technical advisory and hands-on execution for telecom operators and ISPs across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Over two decades of hands-on experience across telecom networks, ISP operations, systems administration, and cloud infrastructure.

01 — Approach

A Different Kind of Consultancy

Most consultants sell tools.

We focus on understanding systems, identifying root causes, and delivering solutions that work under real-world constraints.

We have operated inside live networks, supported critical services, and dealt directly with outages, customers, and executives.

That experience shapes every recommendation we make.

02 — Leadership

Helix Cloud Solutions is led by Kevin K. Kamonye, Principal Consultant and Director since 2019.

His career runs the full arc of network operations — field technician, NOC, systems and network administration, team leadership, projects management, and ICT consulting — across telecoms, public data network operators, satellite operators, MSPs, ISPs, and WISPs.

03 — Track Record

Two Decades in Production

Every recommendation is backed by years inside live networks.

  1. 2019 — Present

    Principal Consultant / Director

    Helix Cloud Solutions

Enterprise-grade delivery across Africa in partnership with Cisco, MikroTik, Cambium Networks, Microsoft, Google Cloud, and AWS — including a full RF/core infrastructure overhaul, security hardening, virtualization, and AWS deployment for DATCO Service Internet (DSI) in the DRC, plus public IP and ASN origination from AfriNIC.

  2. 2021

Principal Core Network & Systems Engineer

    SkyTrend Networks

Re-designed the fibre-optic and wireless network and systems architecture for a CAK-licensed ISP holding a Network Facilities Provider licence, planning its nationwide expansion.

  3. 2012 — 2018

    Assistant Projects Manager

    Belgium Satellite Services

Designed and delivered satellite, network, and systems projects across Africa and the Middle East — BBC World Service distribution to 73 partner stations, UN IOM border-management infrastructure in Djibouti, healthcare networks in Rwanda, Avanti fleet ground monitoring, and a 7.3m earth-station recovery for a UNSOA project in Mogadishu.

  4. 2009 — 2011

Team Leader, IP Solutions & Server Services

Kenya Data Networks (now Liquid Telecom)

Led core IP and server services at the region's leading public data network operator — technical lead for the first Google Global Cache node in East & Central Africa, submarine-fibre capacity planning (SEACOM/TEAMS), regional and international peering (KIXP, JINX, LINX), the region's first VMware vCentre deployment, and the migration of banks, embassies, and UN agencies from satellite to fibre. IP transit grew from ~60 Mbps to over 3 Gbps in 18 months.

  5. 2007 — 2009

    Network / Systems Administrator

    InterSAT Africa

Managed and secured core networks and servers for a satellite upstream provider serving ISPs across Africa and the Middle East, coordinating with RF engineering teams across hubs in Nairobi, London, and Washington.

  6. 2005 — 2007

    NOC Technician

    EdgeNet

Started in the field — networking and civil work, then customer support, then NOC escalations.

Fit

This is a good fit if:

  • Your systems are business-critical
  • Outages or inefficiencies are costly
  • You value engineering truth over vendor pitches
  • You need clarity before committing further

This is not a fit if:

  • You need a full-time employee
  • You want someone to agree with everything
  • Your systems are trivial or non-critical
  • You're looking for the cheapest option

Technical Clarity for Critical Infrastructure

Start with a focused technical review to understand your current state.
